Saw Tadao Ando tonight at a dinner for the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust. He said the first building in his life that he saw as architecture was Wright's Imperial Hotel. Then he showed a floating forest surrounding a floating stadium that he'd like Tokyo to build for the Olympics. And he'd reuse the Kenzo Tange buildings from the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Then Ando talked about having planted 300,000 white blossoming and cherry blossom trees in Osaka. And afterwards he told me he didn't see anything that reinded him of Japanese architecture in the work of Mies van der Rohe. That surprised me.
Maybe he said that because he had Wright on his mind.
    More tomorrow, it's late now...
